The Musical Anthology of Poetry

The Musical Anthology of Poetry
A Celebration of Women’s Verse
with the Cooper School Choir and Friends
Circular Church
150 Meeting Street

March 27th – 1:30pm

Join The Cooper School Choir, Hazel Ketchum, Bob Culver and Laura Ball as the students present an afternoon of poetry and musical verse at the historic Circular Congregational Church. The students will debut the first installment of the Musical Anthology of Poetry,or MAP project, as they give an original musical presentation of the verse of notable women poets Maya Angelou, Ginger Murchison and Nikky Finney.

We come together to celebrate and honor the achievements of women through the sharing of verse as we commemorate March as Women’s Awareness Month.

Special Guest and Poet Keller Freeman joins the Cooper School Choir and musical trio to do a live reading of her own works, with the help of songstress and multi-instrumentalist Hazel Ketchum.

***This project was funded in part by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs and the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Program through their joint administration of the Lowcountry Quarterly Arts Grant Program and the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of SC.
